Who will win world cup 2022 predictions
The final list of teams that will participate in FIFA World Cup 2022 is yet to be determined. However, with only a few games left in each qualifying region, many fans are already predicting who they think will make it. Join us as we take a look at current standing and possible favorites to qualify for world cup 2022, starting with South America.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil was an exciting one for fans of South American teams. Not only did all ten qualify for soccer’s biggest tournament, but four made it to at least quarterfinals—the most any region could produce.
The region’s giants, Brazil and Argentina, met in 2014’s quarterfinals with Brazil winning 2-1 after extra time. However, neither team went on to win a medal in soccer’s most prestigious tournament.
In 2010, both countries hosted and qualified for that year’s tournament. Argentina made it to third place while Brazil was eliminated in quarterfinals. Costa Rica, Uruguay and Paraguay also made it out of groups in 2014, but all were eliminated in Round of 16 matches. With just three spots open to make it to world cup 2022 from CONCACAF, which teams do you think will get there? Four teams have already qualified for next year’s World Cup in Russia. These include: Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Belgium. Four other spots remain up for grabs with five teams going head-to-head in each group to secure a place at next year’s World Cup. In group A, Ecuador is set to take on Chile while Colombia takes on Peru in group C. Group B features Venezuela versus Uruguay and Bolivia battling Paraguay in group D.
Ecuador, Chile and Colombia are three of five teams from CONMEBOL, which is a South American football federation. This year’s World Cup qualifiers will see two teams from each group earn a spot in next year’s tournament. The other three slots for teams outside of Brazil, Argentina, Germany and Belgium will be filled by sides from UEFA including England. In recent history, CONMEBOL has enjoyed more success than its counterpart with Argentina winning two World Cups (1978 and 1986) while Brazil has won five titles (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994 and 2002). Germany also holds one title after defeating Argentina 1-0 in extra time back in 2014.
The Favorites: Argentina, Colombia, Brazil
With three favorites in a tough group, World Cup qualifying South America looks to be a tough task for even one of these powerhouses. Argentina is probably still reeling from their bitter loss to Germany in last year’s final and they'll be looking to make up for that defeat by winning their group, starting with Ecuador. Colombia has been pegged by many experts as one of 2018's top contenders, but can they keep things together over 10 grueling matches? They'll have some stiff competition from fellow powerhouse Brazil, who will be led by Neymar and Jesus The Phenomenon Boyé. Boyé scored five goals during qualifying play for last year's World Cup but was suspended from Brazil's semifinal match against Germany after punching an opponent during extra time.
Can any of these favorites win World Cup qualifying South America? Mexico is definitely going to put up a fight. El Tri has brought in nearly 70,000 fans to all three of their matches and they might be looking for payback after a brutal 6-0 loss at Brazil's Maracana stadium during last year's World Cup. If they can take points off of Argentina or Colombia, you never know what could happen! That being said, taking points off of top tier teams looks like an incredibly difficult task even for one of these powerhouses. You'll have to tune in and see who comes out on top!
